If you had your own reality show, what would it be called? What would it be about?

I'm such a lousy blogger...

I am seriously such a lousy blogger ----> that's what I tell myself each time I come around here and see my one and only significant entry from, well, eons ago. But maybe it isn’t  just that I'm a lazy blogger, but that RL is rather busy as well.

Thinking about it, I always try to redeem my lack of blog-updating with the excuse that I've  actually been writing rather a lot lately, which makes me happy but nonetheless  still leaves me being in the same lousy/lazy-blogger-status.

Anyways, to liven up things around here, I’ve decided to throw myself into the foray ( meaning world wide web) and
upload some pretty old and raw attempts at writing, that if public in general decides is ‘passable enough’ for me to continue it, then I’ll  upload it in a regular basis.

Please do not be considerate in your criticism of my poor attempt at speaking,
ahem writing in English.

Merci :-D

Writer's Block: Parlez-vous francais?

Oui monsieur, je parle un petit peu. Je suis en train d'etudier francais maintenant :-). Et, je veux apprendre aussi Portuguese et Japonais parce que j'aime bien lire Manga.

Well, up there says that yes, I know a little bit of French since I am currently studying it, and want to leanr Portuguese and Japanese too, since I love to read manga and watch anime too.

So, I guess that's three languages I know: Spanish ( my mother language) , English (2nd) and finally French. :-).

I'm a writer wanna be

Hello world :-)

Today I woke up with a lot of energy, annoyingly optimistic  and determined to do something I'd been considering for a long time now, but had been beating around the bush, doubtful to do it : Starting a Blog /Journal.

But here I am. No more hesitation, and for starters, I'd like to share the reason behind the creation of this journal,  hope not to bore you very much...

It’s been thirteen years since my addiction for reading books started. In the beginning by obligation, because my Spanish Language teacher forced the whole classroom to read “El Principito” by Antoine de Saint-Exuperry -in Spanish of course.

For some reason, I remember that day as if it was yesterday.

I got out of school at 1:30 pm, and my father went to pick me up, I told him I had to read “El Principito” before the month was out and he immediately took me to the local library to buy it.

He was enthusiastic about it, you see he’s a poet at heart –literally- and reads a lot, the fact that his first born daughter was starting to show interest in books probably pleased him. As you can guess I wasn’t that much; I had to read the book and do my homework, which meant I would have no time to watch TV at all. But, the book was part of the homework so I didn’t think much about it.

We arrived home around three pm, after stopping at my dad’s office to look for some papers (he’s a Lawyer), we dined, and I started to read immediately. .. I finished the book in five hours.

I don’t remember exactly what about the book hooked me, maybe it was the Little Prince Boa’s drawing, or his love for a petulant flower, or perhaps the interesting personages he found jumping from planet to planet or simply my willingness to know how the story would end. I do not, exactly know.

I was so concentrated in the story that when the night started to fall, I didn’t bother myself in standing up from the couch I was sprawled to turn the lights on.

After that, my teacher didn’t need to tell me to read anything; I did it on my own will. At first I was into the classics. I discovered I had a great liking for Edgar Alan Poe and Juan Bosch tales, Gabriel Garcia Marquez became one of my all time favorite’s authors (I’ve read almost all of his novels), Ernesto Sábato’s “El Tunel” blew out my mind, I became a fan of Oscar Wilde’s famous witticisms, William Shakespeare’s tragic comedies, as well as Lope De Vega’s oeuvres. Around that time, the only book I wasn’t able to read was the “Don Quijote”, I swear I did try, but never succeeded .

I was fourteen, and I already knew I wanted to write a book.

Nearing the end of my high school third year I think I’d read more books than I could remember. Around that time too, I finished my English as a second language studies. Time went by, I started college. Didn’t have time to read much in my first year, in the second a friend I’d made would change my life completely without knowing.

We were at the University library, doing I don’t remember what, I was in front of her and I remember she got out something out of her satchel, a pocket novel around 100 pages; she told me “ I know, is shameful but I like them”.

I was like “huh?”

I took the book from her and stared at the title and the cover (which I found totally cheesy), and I was like “you read this, (lots of laughter) I can’t believe it” then we had a brief discussion. Me pointing out the ridiculousness of those kinds of “Novelitas”; she, telling me they were good and eventually pushing convincing me into reading it.

What do you think happened? Despite my skepticism about them, I kept reading them; some were good, some awfully cheesy, but those novels eventually led me to find authors like Jennifer Crusie, Stephanie Laurens, Elizabeth Boyle, Julia Quinn, Richelle Mead, Jeaniene Frost, Jim Butcher and many more that are still to come.

The diversity of literary genres that I've read thus far, plus the inner maturity acquired within those years, helped me to open my mind to the vastness of the human imagination and to finally view with a new light Kafka’s Metamorphosis and Remedios La Bella’s flight from the backyard of the Buendia’s family house.

All that said, right now I'm embarked in the important mission of making my dream come true, writing a book. which by the way, is easier said than done.  ;-)

Well, for my first post I think that's all I wanted to say for now ( a lot huh -.- ) .I am open to constructive criticism, of course, I beg of you some time to get used to this blogging thing. See ya around.
